Laser is basically, light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. Therefore, acne laser treatment involves the use of laser beams to excavate the root of acne to clear clogged pores effectively. Laser treatment or resurfacing is considered effective due to its precision and accuracy and it is carried out by trained surgeon or dermatologist.

There are two types of acne laser treatment, ablative and non-ablative.

Ablative laser resurfacing eradicates the outer layer of skin to make the scarred area smooth and even. The heat produced during the process helps to tighten the internal layers of the skin by encouraging collagen production.

The non-ablative laser treatment is a mild treatment, which uses yellow pulse dye laser and smooth beam lasers that are non-ablative. This method triggers changes within the dermis by heating the collagen, which in turn tightens the skin and makes the scars less visible. The process does not harm the outer layer of the skin unlike ablative laser treatment.

Risks Associated With Laser Treatment:

As all types of surgical treatment involve risks, laser surgery is also associated with some common surgical risks. The most common risks associated with the inconsistent application of lasers are the burning of skin and an uneven appearance of skin.

The cost of laser surgery for acne scar removal is also questionable. Besides these, the acne laser treatment may not suit everyone. Therefore, before opting for laser treatment one should consult a dermatologist to evaluate all the aspects of acne removal and if possible opt as a last resort.
