red-bumps-on-the-face-of-th

If you thought that acne is only a teenage problem then will be surprised to know that even babies suffer from acne as do many adults even in their forties. It is seen in the form of small red bumps on the face of the baby, mostly gathered around the chin, cheeks and forehead. Usually babies between 3 to 4 weeks of age have this kind of acne. in adults it may be a breakout of the comedones or a conglobate eruption.
In babies the reason is the crossing of the mother’s hormone during pregnancy and also during nursing. These hormones are crucial for a child for its lung maturation and they also stimulate its oil glands. This stimulation of oil in the baby’s body causes acne.
Baby acne usually clears up by the age of 6 months. after this period acne only returns when your child becomes a teenager. In case this does not happen and the acne does not leave even after 6 months you must consult the doctor for some medication. However before that there is no need as such to give harsh medications or apply lotions ob your child since it skin is very soft and might get damaged due to the medication.
However, you must make sure with your doctor once that the baby does have acne and not some skin allergy or infection.
Adults can be treated by the same medicines as teenagers.

stigmas-of-acne

“There is no single disease which causes more psychic trauma, more maladjustment between parents and children, more general insecurity and feelings of inferiority and greater sums of psychic suffering than does acne vulgaris.”  –Sulzberger & Zaldems, 1948
It is widely believed that a disease as minor, as in not life threatening, as acne can cause most severe form of trauma than a lot of other psychological trauma. Psychiatrists all over the world have been unable to find any empirical reason why so many stigmas are attached to this disease which happens to everybody with varying degrees. Acne, in most cases wears off on its own and apart from aesthetic aspect, has no serious ill effect on the health of any person.
Even after knowing all these general facts, acne does have a major impact on the lifestyle of the person affected from this. The person prefers to stay withdrawn, and turn to introverts. The degree of self confidence and self esteem takes a plunge. Apart from general frustration, embarrassment and anger, there are cases where people have suffered from depression due to this. The most remarkable observation is that people with acne are more readily fired from their jobs. All the effects are related to each other and leads to the overall deterioration in the person’s life, discouraging him from following their dreams. Such are the social hazards of acne.

Excoriated Acne

blackheads-and-whiteheads

Acne is not just the basic stuff we’ve talked about already. It has many more variants. There is one such form that we cause ourselves, spending half the day in front of the mirror, scratching and abrading and picking on acne, blackheads and whiteheads. This causes new acne to form, called the excoriated acne. Excoriate means to scratch or abrade the skin. Picking and scratching of acne causes small red marks that appear as if they’ll go, but they stay on, become black and finally become permanent.
In a normal person, it may just appear to be a small acne, but people who know the cause and who are prone to acne know that their constant touching and picking is causing this, yet they cannot endure their desire to nail their acne down, causing more of it. This takes a form of compulsive picking at every small blemish that happens and should be discussed with the dermatologist
Some people also have obsessive compulsive disorder to pick on acne, making this condition even worse.
